Productive Meeting Between ACERA and GDLNG: Strengthening Sino-Australian LNG Cooperation

On July 17, 2024, President Fu Chengtie of Guangdong Dapeng LNG (GDLNG) and his delegation visited the Australia Chinese Energy and Resource Association (ACERA) in Perth. ACERA President Mr. Lu Yongfeng and Vice President Mr. Zhang Xipo hosted the delegation and conducted a productive discussion.

During the meeting, Vice President Zhang Xipo introduced ACERA's history and future mission. Since its inception, ACERA (formerly WACPA) has been committed to providing a platform for exchange and cooperation between Chinese and Australian energy and resource enterprises as a non-profit, non-governmental organization. Through various seminars, forums, and exchange activities, ACERA has promoted mutual trust and cooperation between Chinese and Australian companies. The two Sino-Australian LNG Cooperation Forums hosted by ACERA have received very positive feedback within the industry and have become hallmark events of the association. ACERA will continue to fulfill its mission by providing more comprehensive services to help Chinese and Australian companies achieve greater success in the energy and resources sector, with a current focus on organizing the Sino-Australian LNG Cooperation Forum 2024.

President Fu Chengtie then introduced GDLNG as China's first LNG import project, which signed a 25-year LNG sales and purchase agreement with partners from Australia's North West Shelf project, marking the beginning of large-scale Sino-Australian energy project cooperation. Over the past 18 years, the contract has been successfully executed, and GDLNG's LNG receiving and liquefaction operations have seen significant growth and improvement. This has enabled successful exploration and practice in the Chinese LNG industry, ensuring a stable supply of clean energy for the nation and Guangdong region. In recent years, GDLNG has also made strides in utilizing cold energy, successfully establishing a model project for cold-water fish farming.

Finally, President Lu Yongfeng elaborated on Australia's potential and advantages in the LNG sector. He expressed his delight at GDLNG's latest developments and praised their remarkable achievements in recent years. He looks forward to continuing to provide support and services for GDLNG through ACERA’s platform and welcomed GDLNG to participate in the Sino-Australian LNG Cooperation Forum 2024. President Lu pointed out that Australia’s rich natural gas resources and unique geographical location make it a key contributor in the global LNG market, providing strong support for the development of the LNG industry. President Fu also shared GDLNG’s strategic vision and future plans, expressing significant interest in the prospects of the Australian market.

President Fu thanked ACERA for hosting their visit and expressed gratitude for the support and assistance provided by President Lu during his tenure as CNOOC Manager in Australia. GDLNG looks forward to maintaining close contact and interaction with ACERA as an industry platform, exploring cooperation methods and forms, and participating in the Sino-Australian LNG Cooperation Forum 2024.

After the meeting, the GDLNG delegation was invited to attend a working luncheon organized by ACERA, where they had extensive and enthusiastic exchanges with the Economic and Trade Energy Consul of the Chinese Consulate-General in Perth and representatives from several Chinese energy companies.

We look forward to more similar exchange activities in the future to jointly explore new trends and opportunities in the industry. ACERA will continue to play its role as a platform, promoting deep exchanges between China and Australia in the energy and resources sectors, and contributing to sustainable development.
